The Village of Bamburgh
Recently voted as ‘the best seaside holiday destination in England’ (Which, Travel, 2019) Bamburgh is special. But the tranquility of the village today belies its amazing history. Back in AD 547 it was first mentioned, and for the next thousand years or so, it was at the core of life in the north. And yet today, little of that history is there to be seen. Of course, there is a beautiful castle. There is an amazing Norman Church. Few churches are named after their founder, but St Aidan’s has that privilege. But with conflict comes destruction, and with destruction, comes the challenge of putting history into its context. Mick, and Villages in Time, set out to do that in our guided walk around this ancient, historic and amazing little village. From capital city of Northumbria, to a quiet and pleasant place to visit and spend some time.
Bamburgh Castle
Our walks around this lovely village involve some rough ground and an (optional) trip to the beach. Mobility issues are easy to deal with though. Just let us know and we can make sure this works for you.
